The scene is safe, my gloves are on, my CPR shield with the one-way valve is available. "Sir, are you alright, are you OK?" There's no response. "Sir, can you hear me?" Still no response. "You in the plaid shirt, go call 911 and come back, I might need your help, and if you can find an AED, bring it with you." If I have my cell phone, I'll dial 911 and leave it on speaker phone for assistance from dispatch. They're not breathing normally, I'm going straight into CPR. [Begins chest compressions, counts to 30] Both breaths went in [resumes chest compressions]. The air doesn't go in, reposition [resumes chest compressions], and I would keep doing the CPR, 30 compressions for two rescue breaths until EMS arrives, helps arrives, an AED arrives, or my patient revives and begins to breathe normal again.
